So question I have is… If a controller is….
Built well…
The design is done well…
The switches are so so and not a lot of options to change to but they’re fine…
The shape is great and exactly the same as another brands shape…
But… with very nice improvements and upgrades to the design
But essentially the same pad just better built…
The firmware is the same that other vendors firmware file as well……….
Down to the name…
Boots up with a different logo, but as soon as you update the firmware… You see the other vendors logo on boot up on this vendors pad…???
They clearly pulled it from the GP2040 release list
Which I’m not sure is a good thing or bad thing or unethical or not…??
Example I make a new pad and use the Mavercade firmware file from the list or the Granola or Bentobox or another brands firmware from the list on a pad I sell, not a pad I make personally…
Does that deserve a bad review…??? I was torn but… But I’m starting to think yes on ethics but…
I mean the firmware file is on the Github server so your not stealing it…
And I definitely dont want the vendors to move their firmware from the server list to their own personal website or server… please do NOT do that vendors….
because then you’ll never find it if they go out of business or shutdown the website or do not maintain the website
but this might be the 1st bad review of the year…???
Curious everyone’s thoughts on the ethics of it all and warranting a bad review based on these factors. Makes your product instantly feel like a cheap knockoff even though you spent the RnD dollars and made the improvements to the pad you copied:
- Better build
- Nice slices on the sides to pick up off the desk easy
- Booter Passthrough port is on the top so you dont bend it with your legs
- Better case screws, easier to get on and off
- Artwork in the box
- Firmware although its another vendors firmware. The pad will always have easy updates since that vendor is known for making new pads and maintaining their firmware
If I were to ask for additions I would ask for
- A 2nd power port would have been nice touch too but everything else done is really nice
- Kailh v2 low profile switches. The Jerrzi switches are fine but there are more options to find your preferred feel with the Kailh low profile v2 switches. Not a major issue just a really nice to have
So a lot of goods but… I don’t know how to feel outside of those points. It is what it is just judge the product on future reviews…??
